2000 ExcavationsIn March 2000 the project returned in strength to 10 rue Delattre. The team was made up of Jon Price, Andy Robertshaw, Alastair Fraser, Volker Hartmann, Keith Madison, Martin Brown, Gervaise and Dominic Webb, Jasper Freddie and Hugo Richmond, Alan Prior, Ian Wedge, Peter Scott, Richard Culyer, Steve Roberts, Penny Wilkinson, Lesley Wood, and Remy Lavallaird.The large team enabled work to take place on several fronts. The trench excavation continued to the East, heading for the boundary of Avril's garden. A new excavation was opened up from the confusing section by the cellar steps at the West end of the excavation. An arial overview was taken to see whether any features could be detected, and a geophysical survey was carried out on Avril's property, and in the adjacent field. The extension of the trench to the East produced a further 83 unfired .303 rounds, and three unfired Lebel rounds, as well as the eyepieces, mouthpiece and valve of a PH gas hood. The extension to the West produced more building rubble as expected, but was insufficient to show whether we were in our suspected shell hole. |
